Obviously, as I\u2019ve communicated, up until then, the market gyrations were perfectly normal and somewhat anticipated.\u00a0I\u2019d still suggest that was largely about the market being overdue for a correction.\u00a0But, the calculus certainly changed last week as markets were completely caught offside by the announcements (we knew they were coming, just not to that extent), and suffice to say, the markets adjusted pretty swiftly. There\u2019s no sugar-coating it. This has been bad. I\u2019m not going to downplay it, even though I like keeping these blogs fairly light-hearted.<\/p>\n<p>But, we\u2019ve been through bad periods before (too many for my liking). And, we can look back at 2 such periods just within the last 5 years!\u00a0Obviously, the Covid pandemic caused a 35%+ pullback in March\/April 2020.\u00a0We also saw a 25%+ pullback during the inflation-driven bear market of 2022.\u00a0And, while I\u2019m not suggesting the reasons are the same, the market damage and ultimately the recovery playbook will be similar.\u00a0So, here are a few thoughts on how to get through this period\u2026<\/p>\n<p>First of all, a 10%+ drop in a 2-day period is pretty rare (such as Thu\/Fri last week), but we\u2019ve seen it happen (now) 6 times since 1950.\u00a0And, while there are no guarantees in life (or investing), the markets have been substantially higher 6 and 12 months later in every instance.\u00a0Will we be 6 for 6?\u00a0Only time will tell, but I like those odds.\u00a0Thanks again to Ryan Detrick with Carson Investment Research for this great observation\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-836 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/advisors1.bradcable.com\/lineaprivatewealthmanagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/142\/2025\/04\/April-8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"785\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/advisors1.bradcable.com\/lineaprivatewealthmanagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/142\/2025\/04\/April-8.png 1200w, https:\/\/advisors1.bradcable.com\/lineaprivatewealthmanagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/142\/2025\/04\/April-8-980x641.png 980w, https:\/\/advisors1.bradcable.com\/lineaprivatewealthmanagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/142\/2025\/04\/April-8-480x314.png 480w\" data-sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1200px, 100vw\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1200\/785;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s great data, but it is very hard to think out a year from now when we are in the middle of a noisy and volatile period like we are now, so here are a few things to consider\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>None of us knows when this will end or recover.\u00a0NONE of us.\u00a0Anyone who says otherwise is probably trying to sell you something.<\/li>\n<li>Unless you need access to ALL of your investments in the next year, then this shouldn\u2019t matter (yeah, I know it does).\u00a0Most likely, even if you are living off of your investments in retirement, you have cash, bonds, dividends, etc. that will provide for your liquidity needs for some period of time.\u00a0The key is to NOT SELL or not be FORCED to sell during corrections (bear markets?) like these.<\/li>\n<li>If you are in the desirable position of having excess cash right now, consider a plan to get that money put to work in the coming weeks (see graphic above).<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t make emotional decisions.\u00a0They never work out well (at least in finance).\u00a0Unless your plan or situation has changed, then don\u2019t change your investment strategy.<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, there is nothing good to be had from looking at your account daily, or your stock list or the financial news (get ready for lots of \u201cmarkets in turmoil\u201d specials on TV).\u00a0Just don\u2019t do it.\u00a0I promise you, it\u2019ll only make you anxious and increase the odds of a knee-jerk reaction.\u00a0Instead, listen to some music, get some exercise, spend a little more time with your friends\/family (it&#8217;s Spring Break for many of our kids).\u00a0You won\u2019t regret it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have no idea how the short-term is going to play out.\u00a0I really don\u2019t.\u00a0We could be up 10% in the next week or down another 10%.\u00a0Neither would greatly surprise me.\u00a0But, I DO know that I can\u2019t time any of it.\u00a0And, in many (if not most) cases, when you are just unsure of the best thing to do, you just sit tight.\u00a0Largely, that\u2019s what we\u2019ll do here in the very short-term.\u00a0We\u2019ll let things settle down a little, at least until we have more clarity.\u00a0Once we do, we\u2019ll communicate and advise accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Which brings me to my final point about Masters week.\u00a0Trust me, we get rattled during times like this too.\u00a0The weight of all the trust that our valuable clients place in us on a daily basis is humbling and terrifying.\u00a0I have to practice what I preach, which is why I\u2019ll be reminding myself to really soak in the great week of coverage at The Masters. Of course, I\u2019ll be paying attention to markets, trading accounts as needed, fielding client concerns and anything else that pops up, but I\u2019m really going to focus on enjoying what is otherwise a great time to be in Georgia.\u00a0I\u2019d suggest everyone does the same.<\/p>\n<h3>Until next time (which could be very soon)\u2026.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14px\">Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
